In 2014, St Anne’s took part in the Food Dudes Programme. Food Dudes is a programme developed by the Food & Activity Research Unit at Bangor University, Wales to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables both in school and at home. It is based on positive role models (the Food Dudes characters), repeated tasting and rewards. Ms Mc Elwaine led the Programme in St Anne’s. The programme started in St Anne’s on 26th February and ran for 16 consecutive school days.
Our first day included tasting apples and cherry tomatoes.
Day 2 was carrots and raisins, Day 3 we had peppers and bananas and Day 4 was cucumbers and oranges. Each of these were repeated over the 16 days. It was great fun trying new fruits and vegetables!!!
Each child received a home pack so all parents were encouraged to promote the programme at home. Further information check out the website http://www.fooddudes.ie
Food Dudes has changed the eating habits of the children in St Anne’s and we hope Food Dudes leaves a lasting legacy in the lunch boxes!!!!
