Olympic Handball success

The St. Anne’s boys Under 11 team and their coach Mr Brennan are celebrating after winning a bronze medal at the Meath Olympic Handball Championship. The boys topped their group after fantastic victories over Skryne, Yellow Furze and Carnaross. Unfortunately they missed out on a place in the final after losing a tight battle in the semi-finals to Yellow Furze.

St. Paul’s of Ratoath stood between the boys and a bronze medal in the 3rd /4th place playoff and after conceding an early goal they battled back to claim the medal on a score line of 3-1.

The team was backboned by a strong cast from Mr. McKiernan’s class including Terry Okodogbe, Muthana Amin, Adam Blundell, Ryan Borez, Henry Kareem and Alameen Kareem. Bobby Gaffney, Aidan Lynch, goalkeeper Jack Reilly and Cormac Stapleton from Ms. Dervan’s fourth class were key figures on their route to third place.

The boys played a wonderful brand of passing and moving handball in Gormanstown over the two days and showed great sportsmanship after each game.
