In St Anne’s we have a great interest in Digital Learning and using technology as an effective learning tool.
We have two class sets of iPads and a new set of Chromebooks for use by all pupils in the school as well as a set used by our SET team to aid children with additional needs. Each class has the opportunity to use the devices within the classroom every week. The pupils enjoy the various apps and games on the iPads/Chromebooks which help to improve their Numeracy and Literacy skills.
The boys and girls in the senior classes also use the iPads and Chromebooks to compile projects and presentations on various curricular topics. These projects and are often presented to the class through the use of the Apple TV on the classroom interactive whiteboard.
In addition to this, we have 10 Lego Education Kits which we use in conjunction with the Chromebooks to introduce icon and word coding to our classes. These have proven to be very popular with our pupils and we have participated in the Lego League Challenge for the last number of years. Our junior classes are introduced to coding through the use of Beebots.
We are very proud of our Digital learning development in St. Anne’s and we have been visited by many other schools from neighbouring counties to see the devices in operation within the classrooms. We are proud to have achieved the Digital School of Distinction Award.
In 2015 we were selected as a pilot school by the Department of Education & Skills to trial Interactive Flat Screen boards. We have since installed one in every classroom and SET room.
In 2016 we were became a Digital School of Distinction for promoting, recognising and encouraging excellence in the use of technology in our primary school. We are very proud of this achievement.
